What a hair bundle is
A hair bundle is a length of human hair sewn onto a fabric strip called a weft. One standard bundle is about 100 grams, or 3.5 ounces. Bundles are sewn, glued or clipped onto braided-down natural hair, or onto a wig cap to build a unit. They are sold by length, in inches, and by texture.
How many bundles do you need?
Two to three bundles for lengths up to 18 inches. Three for 18 to 22 inches. Three to four for 24 to 26 inches. Four for 28 inches and above. A closure or frontal covers part of the head, so it does not reduce the count much, but it does change where the hair sits. Add a bundle if you want visibly heavier density, and add one for curly textures, which look thinner at the ends than straight hair of the same length.
Where the length actually lands
Every inch chart online is measured on straight hair pulled taut. Curl takes some of that back. At 22 inches ordered, straight wears at about 22 inches, yaki straight at 21, kinky straight at 20, body wave at 19, loose wave at 18, deep wave at 16, and curly at 15. If you want a specific worn length in a curly texture, order two to four inches longer than your target.
Virgin, raw, Remy and processed
Raw hair is from a single donor and unprocessed beyond washing. Virgin hair has never been chemically treated but may be steam-processed into a texture and may come from more than one donor. Remy means the cuticles are aligned in one direction, which is what keeps hair from matting. Non-Remy hair has cuticles running in both directions and is usually silicone-coated to hide it, which is why it feels good for two washes and then tangles. Worth saying plainly: virgin and Remy are unregulated marketing terms. Cuticle alignment is the thing that matters, and no label guarantees it.
What bundles cost
At Mayvenn, virgin bundles run $51 to $197 depending on texture and length, raw bundles $56 to $315, and three-bundle deals $153 to $429. Closures run $49 to $181 and frontals $87 to $232. Longer lengths cost more because fewer donors grow hair that long, not because the hair is different.
Closure or frontal?
A closure is a small lace piece, 4x4 up to 7x7 inches, that closes the top of an install and gives you one part. A frontal is 13x4 or 13x6 inches and runs ear to ear, so you can part anywhere and wear the hair off your face. Closures cost less, install faster, last longer and stress the hairline less. Frontals give you parting freedom and a finished hairline. Most people should start with a closure.
How long bundles last
A well-cared-for virgin bundle can be taken down, washed and reinstalled several times over a year or more. What ends a bundle early is heat above 375 degrees, box dye, and being stored damp. Co-wash weekly, wrap in silk or satin at night, and seal the wefts before every install.
