Buying bundles with closure is what stops you leaving your own hair out to blend. A lace closure is a small panel of lace that covers the crown, with hair hand-tied into it, so the part sits on the lace instead of on your scalp. Nothing of yours is exposed to heat, tension or daily styling for the life of the install.

How to choose the size, the lace and the length

Size is a question of how much you move your part, not how much hair you want. A 2x6 is a narrow strip, two inches across and six front to back, for one long middle or side part on the least lace anyone has to melt. A 4x4 gives sixteen square inches and handles a fixed middle or side part. It is the smallest square to blend and the fastest to install, which is why it is the one to learn on. A 5x5 adds an inch in every direction, so the part can go deeper, sit further off center, and be moved mid-week without reinstalling.

The wide sizes do a different job. A 6x6 gives six inches of parting in every direction, which covers a deep side part and most pulled-back styles. A 7x7 is the widest closure we carry and gets you close to frontal freedom without committing to ear-to-ear lace. Both come in HD lace only.

HD lace is the thinner of the two laces. It sits into the scalp rather than on top of it, so most people lay it with no bleaching and no tinting. It is also more delicate. Transparent lace is sturdier, blends with most skin tones on its own, and survives more take-downs before it thins, which makes it the forgiving choice if you install yourself.

Buy the closure in the same texture and length range as your bundles. A 14-inch closure blends with 14 to 18-inch bundles; the 18-inch is the one for longer installs. If your bundles are colored, buy the closure in that color rather than dyeing it. Lace hair lifts differently from wefted hair and the part ends up a shade off.

What is a lace closure?

A lace closure is a hairpiece that closes off the top of a sew-in. Hair is knotted by hand into a square or rectangle of sheer lace, and that panel sits where your part would be. It gives you a scalp-like parting without leaving any of your own hair out.

What is a closure sew-in?

A closure sew-in is a full weave where wefts are stitched to your braided-down hair and a lace closure finishes the crown. Every strand of your own hair stays braided underneath. That is why people choose it over a leave-out install.

What lace closure sizes are there?

Five, and this page carries all of them. A 2x6 is a narrow strip for one long front-to-back part. 4x4 and 5x5 are the two standards and cover most installs. 6x6 and 7x7 are the wide sizes, giving a free-parting area closer to what a frontal does without the ear-to-ear lace. Lace closure or lace frontal?

A closure covers the crown; a frontal covers the whole hairline, ear to ear. Choose a closure if you wear the same part and keep the hair down. Choose a frontal if you want to pull the hair back or part anywhere across the front. The closure costs you less time either way: less lace to cut, less to bleach, less to lay. A 7x7 is the middle ground if you want a wide part but not a new hairline.

What is a closure wig?

A closure wig is a full cap unit with a lace closure sewn in at the crown, so it comes on and off in one piece instead of being sewn to your head. Stylists build them from a closure and a few bundles. Finished units are grouped under closure wigs.

Lace closure or silk base closure?

Lace is thinner and blends flatter. A silk base has a fabric layer under the knots that mimics a scalp, so the knots hide without bleaching, but it sits higher off the head and is harder to lay. Everything here is lace.
