Start with the color, not the length

Color is the thing you cannot change without a colorist, so choose it first. The natural black body wave is the only unlifted unit here — pick it if you want to color the hair yourself later, or if you want the lowest-maintenance wash routine in the collection. Everything else arrives professionally colored.

Brunette, blonde or rooted?

Brunette balayage units (Giselle, Mystique, Celine, Luscious) keep a dark root and lift through the mid-lengths and ends. They are the easiest colored units to blend with your own dark hair at the nape and the most forgiving to maintain. Rooted blondes (Bianca, Aurora, Brooklyn, Ruby) do the same thing with more contrast. All-over blondes (Taylor, Tiffany, Hazel, Penelope) are the biggest change to your face and the highest upkeep — Penelope, the platinum ash, sits at the top of that scale.

How long should you go?

The colored units come in 16 and 22 inches. Sixteen sits around the collarbone and is noticeably lighter on the cap, which matters if you wear a unit five days a week. Twenty-two hits mid-back. The natural black body wave runs 14 to 28 inches. The bobs are 12 inches, shoulder-grazing and already styled.

Body wave hangs shorter than its measured length because the pattern takes up hair — a 22-inch wave sits closer to 19 or 20 on the body. Silky straight hangs at its measured length.

Body wave or silky straight?

Body wave is the safer first unit. Movement hides a lot: an imperfect lace edge, a part that shifted, a day you did not restyle. Silky straight hides nothing, which is exactly why it looks sharper when you get it right — and why it shows hand-painted color placement more plainly than any wave does.

What glueless does and does not solve

It removes the adhesive, the lace trimming and the wait time. It does not remove the need to braid your own hair flat underneath, and a band-and-comb cap is not built for sleeping in or for swimming. If you want a unit you can wear up in a high ponytail with no track showing, that is a full lace cap, not a closure cap.

What is a glueless wig?

A glueless wig is a unit built to stay on without adhesive. Instead of glue or bonding gel along the hairline, the cap uses an adjustable elastic band at the nape and sewn-in combs that grip braided hair underneath. How does a glueless wig stay on?

Three things hold it. The elastic band tightens at the nape and does most of the work. The combs bite into flat braids or a wig cap. And the cap itself is fitted, so it sits rather than slides. Braiding your own hair down first is not optional — it is what gives the combs something to hold and what keeps the crown flat under the closure.

What are the downsides of a glueless wig?

Honest answer: a band-and-comb cap is less permanently secure than a glued install. It is not built for sleeping in, for swimming, or for a workout where it will get soaked. And a closure cap is not a full lace cap — the lace is a panel at the crown, not a hairline that runs to the nape, so you can part deeply and freely inside that panel but you cannot pull the hair into a high ponytail without showing the back edge. How do you install one?

Braid your hair flat, front to back. Put on a wig cap if you want an extra layer for the combs. Slide the unit on from front to back, tighten the band at the nape, and press the combs in. Smooth the closure down and part it where you want it. Two to five minutes with practice, and it comes off in one motion at night.

How do you wash a human hair wig?

Off your head, not on it. Fill a basin, dip and squeeze rather than scrubbing in circles — circles are what cause matting at the nape. Sulfate-free shampoo, condition from mid-shaft to ends, rinse cool, then air dry on a stand so the cap keeps its shape. Every eight to ten wears is enough for most people. Colored units want cool water and color-safe products; the natural black unit is unlifted and takes a standard wash.

How long does a glueless wig last?

What ends a wig early is heat and friction: keep an iron at 350°F or below with a protectant, know that flat ironing a wave pattern at high heat straightens it permanently, and store it on a stand or in a satin bag rather than folded in a drawer.

Lifted hair is porous hair. The higher the lift, the more the unit wants moisture and the less heat it tolerates. Copper and cinnamon tones fade fastest of all, regardless of lift.
