Transparent is the sturdier of the two lace types Mayvenn carries. It blends with most skin tones as it comes, and it survives more take-downs before the mesh starts to thin. That combination makes it the one to buy if you install yourself.

How to choose a size, texture and length

Size is about how you part, not how much hair you get. A 4x4 handles a standard middle or side part, installs fastest, and is the smallest amount of lace to melt down — the easiest size to learn on.

A 5x5 adds an inch in every direction. The extra room lets you take the part deeper, set it further off center, and move it mid-week without re-installing.

Match the texture to the bundles, not to the photo. All eight textures here have a matching bundle in the same virgin hair. Lengths run 10, 14, 16 and 18 inches; a 14-inch closure blends with 14 to 18-inch bundles. If the bundles are colored, buy the closure already in that color — lace hair lifts differently from wefted hair, and a home-dyed part comes out a shade off.

What is a lace closure?

A lace closure is a small piece of hand-tied hair on a lace base, sewn or glued at the crown to close off a sew-in. It gives you a realistic part and a finished top with none of your own hair left out. Mayvenn closures run 4x4 and 5x5 here, with 2x6, 6x6 and 7x7 bases on their own pages.

Lace closure vs lace frontal: which one do you need?

A closure if you wear one part, a frontal if you want to move it. A 4x4 or 5x5 closure covers the crown and gives you a fixed middle or side part. A 13x4 frontal runs ear to ear, so you can part anywhere across the front, sweep the hair back, or wear it up without a track at the temples. The frontal costs more install time and more upkeep at your edges. Most people are better served by a closure.

Lace closure vs silk base closure: what changes?

Lace blends flatter, silk base hides knots better. A silk base carries a layer of silk under the hair so the knots sit hidden and the part looks like scalp with no bleaching. It is also thicker, which makes the perimeter harder to disappear and sits the piece higher on the head. Every closure Mayvenn carries is lace, which is the choice for an invisible edge.

What size lace closure should you get?

4x4 for a fixed part, 5x5 if you change it. Go larger only for parting room further back: 6x6 and 7x7 give six and seven inches in every direction, and a 2x6 gives a long front-to-back part on the least lace of all. No size changes your bundle count — three bundles plus a closure covers a full head at 18 inches and under, four past 22.

Laying it and keeping it

Transparent lace blends on most skin as it comes; on a deeper complexion, one pass of tint spray closes the gap. Cut just past the hairline rather than flush to it, and pluck a few knots at the front so the density does not read as a solid block. The lace wears out long before the hair does, so take-down is where a closure is won or lost: dissolve adhesive with remover rather than pulling.
