A 7x7 closure is the largest closure size made — seven inches of lace in both directions, 49 square inches of parting space. That is close to a frontal's parting freedom without the ear-to-ear install, so you can wear a long part, move it, or pull the hair up off the face and still have lace behind it.

What is a 7x7 closure?

A 7x7 closure is a lace hairpiece measuring 7 inches by 7 inches, with hair hand-tied to the lace so it can be parted anywhere inside that square. It sits at the crown to close off a sew-in or to build a wig. At 49 square inches it holds more parting space than any other closure size — a 6x6 covers 36, a 5x5 covers 25, a 4x4 covers 16.

Why are these 7x7 closures HD lace only?

Surface area. HD lace is the thinnest lace produced, so it sinks into the scalp instead of sitting on top of it. That matters a little on a small base and enormously on a large one: seven inches square leaves nowhere for thicker lace to hide, and the edges give it away in daylight and in photos. Rather than sell a size that fights the person installing it, Mayvenn stocks 7x7 in HD only. HD tears more easily than standard lace, so cut and lay it with a light hand.

What are the key differences between a 7x7 closure and a 6x6 closure?

One inch on each side — 49 square inches against 36, about a third more lace. In practice the 7x7 lets you take a part further back and further off center, and it keeps lace behind the hair when you sweep the front up. The cost is install time: a third more lace is a third more to bleach, tint, cut and melt down, and a third more that has to stay flat all day. If you part in roughly the same place every time, a 6x6 closure gets you most of the benefit for less work.

What size closure is best?

The best size is the smallest one that covers how you actually part your hair. A 4x4 handles a fixed middle or side part. A 5x5 adds an inch of slack on top of that. A 6x6 suits someone who moves the part regularly. A 7x7 is for the person who wants near-frontal freedom — a long part, a deep side sweep, hair pulled back — and is willing to spend the extra time blending. Is a 7x5 a closure or a wig?

7x5 describes a lace base, not a finished unit — 7 inches across by 5 inches back. It is sold both ways: as a closure you sew into an install, and already built onto a cap as a 7x5 closure wig. The measurement tells you the parting area, not what the piece is. The same is true of 7x7: this collection is closures, and a 7x7 closure wig is that closure sewn onto a cap.

Is a 7x7 closure the same as a frontal?

No. A 7x7 is a square that sits on top of the head. A frontal is a 13x4 or 13x6 strip running the entire hairline from one ear to the other. The 7x7 comes closest to a frontal in parting range, but it does not cover the temples, so it will not give you a fully slicked-back look or a high ponytail with a natural edge. What it does give you is most of that freedom with far less lace on your head and far less upkeep.
