What is a 6x6 closure?

A 6x6 closure is a hairpiece with a lace base measuring 6 inches by 6 inches — 36 square inches of parting space, compared with 25 on a 5x5 and 16 on a 4x4. The hair is hand-tied to the lace so the part can be set anywhere inside that square. It sits at the crown to close off a sew-in or to finish a wig, and once it is blended the hair looks like it is growing from the scalp.

Why are these 6x6 closures HD lace only?

Because of the size. HD lace is thinner and finer than standard transparent lace, so it disappears against the scalp instead of sitting on top of it. On a 4x4 you can get away with transparent lace — there is not much surface to hide. On a 6x6 there are 36 square inches of it, and any lace that is not truly undetectable will show at the edges. Rather than stock a version of this size that is harder to melt down, Mayvenn carries HD only. HD lace is more delicate than transparent, so handle it gently when you cut and lay it.

What is the difference between a 5x5 and a 6x6 closure?

One inch in every direction, which works out to roughly 40% more lace: a 5x5 covers 25 square inches, a 6x6 covers 36. That extra inch buys you a longer part, more room to move it off center, and the ability to pull the front of the hair back further before the edge of the lace shows. A 5x5 installs faster and needs less blending, so it is the better pick if you wear the same part every time.

What is the difference between a 7x7 closure and a 6x6 closure?

A 7x7 adds another inch on each side — 49 square inches against the 6x6's 36. It is the largest closure size made before you cross into frontal territory, and it gives you close to frontal parting range while still installing like a closure. The trade-off is the same at every size: more lace means more surface to bleach, tint and melt down, and more time in the chair. A 6x6 is where most people land, because the parting freedom is nearly the same and the blending is easier.

What is the difference between a 6x6 closure and a frontal?

Coverage and placement. A 6x6 closure is a square piece that sits at the crown or the middle of the head and closes off the top of a sew-in. A frontal is a wide strip — usually 13x4 or 13x6 — that runs ear to ear across the entire hairline, so the hair can be worn pulled fully back or in a high ponytail. A frontal needs more product, more maintenance and more time to install. If you part your hair and wear it down, a 6x6 closure does the same job with a fraction of the upkeep.
