Body Wave Hair: Bundles, Closures & Wigs

Soft S-wave with natural bounce — the easiest texture to live with.

Body wave is a loose, open S-pattern that sits between straight and a true curl. It is the texture most people start with: enough movement to look full without styling, and enough weight to lie flat against the head.

Buying guide (read before you buy)

How many bundles do I need?

Waved textures read fuller than straight at the same length, so three bundles covers a full head through 22 inches and two is enough for a shorter install. Past 24 inches, go to four — long bundles are cut narrower at the weft and cover less of the head.

How do I keep the wave from loosening?

Body wave loosens with washing and brushing faster than tighter patterns. Detangle with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb while the hair is wet, scrunch in a light leave-in rather than combing it through, and air dry where you can. The pattern comes back with water.

Body wave or loose wave?

Body wave is the wider and softer of the two. Loose wave has a tighter, more defined curve and reads curlier once dry. If you want movement that still looks close to a blowout, body wave is the one.

Can I straighten it?

Yes. Virgin body wave presses straight and reverts with water. Use a heat protectant and stay under 350°F. Repeated high-heat pressing will eventually relax the pattern for good.

Not sure what to buy? Hair Texture Guide

Body wave hair is the loose, open S that reads as a good blowout rather than a curl. It has movement without definition: no ringlets to separate, no pattern to fight in the morning. That is why it is the texture most people land on first, and the one stylists reach for when a client says she wants her hair full but not done.

The natural black body wave bundle is 100% virgin Malaysian human hair, with a raw body wave bundle and four colors alongside it. Every bundle weighs 100 grams, and the wave is steamed in rather than chemically set, so the pattern returns after each wash instead of relaxing out over a few weeks.

How to choose your length and color

The natural black bundle runs 10 to 32 inches. That is the full range, and the one to buy for a long install. The colored bundles run 16 to 24 inches in #1 jet black, #2 chocolate brown, #4 caramel brown and 99J burgundy. The raw body wave bundle runs 12 to 30 inches.

Length on a wave is measured with the hair pulled straight. Body wave barely shrinks, under an inch, so the number on the tag is close to what you will actually wear.

Body wave has one of the deepest benches of matching pieces we carry: closures from 2x6 to 7x7, 13x4 and 13x6 frontals and a raw body wave frontal, in natural black, with selected pieces in color. Buy the closure in the color you bought the bundles in rather than dyeing one to match. Lace hair takes color differently from wefted hair and the part ends up a shade off.

For a three-bundle install, the Body Wave 3 Bundle Deal is three bundles in three consecutive lengths, 100 grams each, for less than the same three bought separately: 20, 22 and 24 inches is $273 against $291 as singles. There are raw, #613 blonde and colored body wave deals too.

Questions people ask about body wave

What is body wave hair?

Body wave is a loose, uniform S-pattern that runs the length of the hair without curling at the ends. It sits between bone straight and a defined wave. On virgin bundles the pattern is set with steam rather than chemicals, which is why it comes back every time you wash it out.

Is this the same as a body wave perm?

No. A body wave perm is a salon chemical service that puts a soft wave into your own hair, and it grows out. These are wefted extensions sewn into braided-down hair, and the wave is already in them. Nothing chemical touches your hair.

How long does body wave hair last?

A sew-in lasts six to eight weeks. Past that, the braids underneath start to matt at the base and it is your own hair that pays for it. Wash with a sulfate-free shampoo, condition mid-shaft down, and scrunch rather than comb while it is wet. Keep a flat iron at 350 and below with a heat protectant, because 450 straightens a wave for good. Taken down on schedule, one set reinstalls three or four more times.

  • Lengths: 10" to 32" in natural black, 12" to 30" raw, 16" to 24" in color
  • Colors: natural black, #1 jet black, #2 chocolate brown, #4 caramel brown and 99J burgundy
  • Malaysian virgin hair in natural black, plus raw body wave; steam-processed texture; 100 grams per bundle
  • Double machine wefted to limit shedding at the seam
  • Matching closures from 2x6 to 7x7, plus 13x4 and 13x6 frontals
  • 3 Bundle Deals in natural black, raw and color

If you want more definition, step across to loose wave for a tighter S or deep wave for a defined spiral. Finish the install with a matching body wave closure, or skip the sew-in entirely with a body wave wig. Every texture sits together in virgin bundles. Bundles come back within 30 days of delivery: untouched for a full refund, worn for store credit, return shipping on you. See the return policy.

Frequently asked questions

Is body wave a good texture for a first sew-in?

It is the usual starting point. It has enough movement to look full without daily styling, enough weight to lie flat against the head, and it is the most forgiving texture to blend with a blow-dried leave-out.

How many body wave bundles do I need?

Mayvenn recommends 2 body wave bundles for installs up to 14 inches and 3 bundles for 16 inches and longer, paired with a closure or frontal. Every Mayvenn bundle weighs 100 grams, so the count is the same for every texture.

Will the wave loosen over time?

It loosens with washing and brushing faster than tighter patterns do, but it is not permanent. Detangle with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb while the hair is wet, scrunch in a light leave-in instead of combing it through, and the pattern comes back with water.

Body wave or loose wave, what is the difference?

Body wave is the wider, softer of the two and sits closer to a blowout. Loose wave has a tighter, more defined curve and reads as curly once dry. Body wave is easier to straighten; loose wave holds a curl better.

Does body wave shrink?

Barely, under an inch. It is the least shrinking of the waved textures, so the length on the tag is close to what you will actually wear. Deep wave and curly shrink far more.

Can I straighten body wave bundles?

Yes, and they revert with water. Use a heat protectant and stay under 350F. Repeated high-heat pressing will eventually relax the pattern for good, so if you plan to wear it straight most of the time, buy straight hair instead.
