How do you keep boho braids from tangling?
Tangling is not random. It is friction plus dryness, and both are manageable.
- Wrap every single night. A satin or silk bonnet or scarf. This is the highest-impact habit on the list and the one people skip. Cotton pillowcases pull moisture out and rough up the cuticle while you move in your sleep.
- Moisturize the curls two or three times a week. A light leave-in conditioner spray on the loose hair only, not the scalp. Dry hair tangles; conditioned hair slides past itself.
- Separate with your fingers, not a comb. Work through the loose pieces gently every few days, before small knots become one large one.
- Do not sleep on damp hair. Ever. Damp braids that stay damp are how you end up with mildew at the root and a smell you cannot wash out.
- Coat the curls before swimming. Conditioner or a leave-in before you get in, chlorinated or salt water. Salt water is the fastest way to ruin a set of curls on vacation.
- Mind your bags and collars. A crossbody strap sitting on the same section of curls daily will wear a patch. Move it.
Can you wash boho braids?
Yes, and human hair curls need it. Plan on washing every two to three weeks.
Dilute a gentle shampoo, work it into the scalp with your fingertips rather than scrubbing the length, and rinse thoroughly. Follow with conditioner on the loose curls only. Then dry completely — a blow dryer on cool through the roots, then air dry. The step people rush is the drying, and it is the one that causes the most damage.
If your curls are synthetic, washing has diminishing returns. Fiber that has already matted does not come back.

Can you reuse the human hair from boho braids?
Yes — that is one of the real arguments for buying human hair in the first place. Bulk human hair that has been carefully removed can go into a second install and often a third.
To store it: detangle fully, wash with a gentle shampoo, condition, lay it flat to air dry completely, then keep it in a sealed bag out of sunlight. Hair stored damp will mildew. Hair stored tangled will not come back.
