Makeup Magic: Terrell Mullin

Makeup Magic: Terrell Mullin

Makeup artist Terrell Mullin

Ever wondered who was responsible for the beautifully beat faces of model Eva Marcille, Angela Bassett and Eve? The man behind is beat is Terrell Mullin.

As the former dancer aged out of his background performance career, he made a seamless transition into the beauty world. Having gotten his start in the business at age 18 on the set of the popular UPN sitcom Moesha, Mullin tried his hand at makeup and found a new niche.

Despite having no formal training, he’s become one of the most sought after MUAs in the game, lending his talents in almost every arena: on TV and movie sets, photo and video shoots, for musical productions, and even working as the sole makeup artist for some of the top entertainers in their respective fields.

In 2013, he expanded his profile after he was appointed as the Creative Director for singer and reality star Tamar Braxton. His job led him to lead concepts for any work assigned to Tamar, including her national Love & War tour and working with her on all television projects. His glam work on The Real resulted in an Emmy nomination in 2015.

Since then, he has continued to be in high demand while doing both hair and makeup. You can find Terrell working closely alongside gospel artist Erica Campbell, having a great relationship with actress Niecy Nash, and continuing his work with model Eva Marcille (who also happens to be his cousin) practically daily. His work has even caught the attention of male clients, he’s worked with the very sexy Taye Diggs!

When speaking about how he is able to create Eva’s signature flawless and natural look, Mullin says:

“It’s great working with Eva Marcille, not only because she is my cousin, but also because she never questions me. She never asks me what I am doing or which look I am going for, she just allows me to work my magic and accentuate her beauty. I always like to highlight her cheeks because they’re so big and go on forever.”

Speaking with VIBE Magazine in 2014, he mentioned his favorite looks to create are the most natural; he avoids falling into the trap of the heavy contouring trend. Mullin prefers to use makeup to enhance his client’s beauty, not alter it.

“We go for an effortless, yet sexy look that any woman can pull off daily, not just on the red carpet,” he said.

His work has graced magazine covers and has been featured in publications like People and Essence.

Let’s cruise through some of Terrell’s looks from behind the scenes and in front of the camera.
