Black-Owned Businesses We ❤️: Let’s Celebrate Black Business Month

We’d need a never-ending blog to share all of the Black-owned businesses we’ve come to know and love over the years, but highlighting a few of our favorites during Black Business Month is a perfect place to start. From skincare and beauty to wellness and apparel, check out five of our favorite Black-led businesses.

Ami Colé

Founded by Diarrha N’Diaye, “Ami Colé is about discovering, defining, celebrating, and exploring the excellence of those with melanin-rich skin, and using nourishing ingredients like our hero Baobab seed oil extract–native to Sub-Saharan Africa and known to strengthen, soften, and nourish our skin cells.” The brand offers a range of clean makeup, kits, tools, and accessories.

Homebody

Homebody is a wellness brand that focuses on the healing power of CBD, antioxidants and superfoods. After a traumatic car accident, Rebecca Grammer-Ybarra decided to research color theory and the strength of natural ingredients to aid in the healing of her body. The brand’s message is clear, “we are big on nature providing our vitality and optimal health and are wise enough to know that everything we put on our skin quickly absorbs into our bodies - so what you'll find in our products are some of the finest raw materials the earth has to offer”.

OUI The People

Launched by Karen Young over a decade ago, OUI the People aims to “celebrate your softness and your strength, and champion your journey to doing whatever makes you feel good”. They make it clear that “the only labels [they] care about list [their] ingredients—everything else is just noise”.

Golde

Co-founded by Trinity Mouzon Wofford, Golde offers a range of superfood products and superfood-powered skincare products. Wofford was the youngest Black woman to launch in Sephora and is on “a mission to make wellness easy, accessible and fun for all”.

Riot Swim

Founded in 2016 by Monti Landers, Riot Swim prides itself on “having pieces for everyone to enjoy regardless of skin tone, body type, size, or coverage preference”. The fabrics are buttery soft and ultra-flattering, and the brand has since branched into activewear and lounge.

August may be the “official” Black Business Month, but don’t forget to shop, spread the word, and support throughout the year!
