Which curl to buy

Brazilian curly is the loosest of the four and the most versatile. It reads as a big, soft curl rather than a defined coil, and it is the only one here that runs the full 10 to 32 inches.

Burmese curly is a tight, springy 3C to 4A coil that shows up as dense volume more than as separate ringlets. It runs 12 to 26 inches.

Questions people ask about curly bundles

What are curly bundles?

Curly bundles are wefts of curly human hair sewn to a track, installed onto braided-down hair as a weave. Because the curl is real rather than heat-set into fiber, it survives washing, holds product and reinstalls. One bundle is not one head, which is why they are bought in threes and fours.

How much length does a curl lose to shrinkage?

A quarter to a half of it. Length is measured with the hair pulled straight, so a 20-inch afro kinky curly bundle can sit closer to 12 or 13 inches once it dries. Four inches over your target is a sensible rule on the tighter patterns, two on the Brazilian.

How many bundles do I need for a curly sew-in?

Three bundles cover a full sew-in at 18 inches and under. Past 22 inches, buy four. Tighter curls need the density more than straight hair does, because the pattern itself takes up the space that would otherwise read as thickness.

How do you wash curly bundles without frizzing them?

Detangle first, only when wet and slick with conditioner, in sections, with a wide-tooth comb from the ends up. Never dry comb a curl. Then sulfate-free shampoo, deep condition, leave-in and a light oil on damp hair. Scrunch rather than rub, and air dry or diffuse on low. Between washes, refresh with water and leave-in in a spray bottle instead of rewashing.

How long does a curly sew-in last?

Six to eight weeks in the hair. A curly quick weave is the short version, two to four weeks, because it is bonded rather than sewn. Either way, pineapple or bonnet the hair at night. Friction is what turns a defined curl into frizz at the nape, and heat is what ends it for good, so keep a flat iron at 350 and below with a protectant.
