That extra inch is what lets you part deep down the middle, swing the part well off center, or move it mid-week without pulling the install apart.

How to choose the lace, texture, length and color

Start with the lace, because it decides how much prep the install takes. HD disappears against skin with no bleaching or tinting on most skin tones, but it tears if you handle it roughly and thins where you glue and pull. Transparent is the forgiving one: it holds up under repeat take-downs and still blends on its own. Still learning to cut lace? Buy transparent. Stylist laying it, or the part getting photographed close up? Buy HD.

Then match the closure to your bundles rather than to your wish list, in the same texture and the same color as the hair it will sit against. A 14-inch closure blends with 14 to 18-inch bundles; the 18-inch is for a longer install. Do not dye a closure to catch a colored bundle — lace hair lifts differently from wefted hair, and the part ends up a shade off.

What is a 5x5 closure?

It is a lace hairpiece measuring five inches by five inches, with hair knotted into the lace by hand so the part can sit anywhere inside that square. It closes off the top of a sew-in or finishes a wig, and once blended the part reads as scalp rather than as a track.

What is the difference between a 4x4 and a 5x5 closure?

One inch on each side, which is 25 square inches against 16 — about half again as much lace. A 4x4 handles a fixed middle or side part and installs fastest. A 5x5 buys a longer part, room to move it off center, and enough lace behind the hairline to sweep the front back. Wear the same part every week and a 4x4 is enough; change it and the 5x5 is the one.

How many bundles do I need with a 5x5 closure?

Three bundles plus the closure covers a full head at 18 inches and under, four past 22. A closure does not replace a bundle — it replaces your leave-out, so your own hair stays braided down for the whole install.

Why are both laces stocked at this size?

Because five inches square is still small enough that transparent lace lays cleanly. On the larger bases only HD is thin enough to disappear, but at 5x5 you get a real choice: HD for the flattest melt, transparent for the longer life.
