Bright neon, pastel tones, and loud colors are some of the best pairings with dark skin. Because of widespread and narrow-minded beauty standards, Black women have often been told they cannot rock these colors or even wear bright lipstick. But, truth be told, some of the brightest colors like red, orange, yellow, pink, and more look the best on brown skin.
With social media platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok, more and more Black women have taken to their platforms to post makeup tutorials and uplift others in the beauty space. Makeup gurus like Jackie Aina and Nyma Tang have popularized and started trends within the beauty industry.
Black women have been left out of the beauty space for so long. From brands not valuing darker skin tones to not creating products made for us, for for too long Black women did not feel welcomed in the beauty space. After Rihanna launched Fenty Beauty in 2017, many brands started to follow suit and become more inclusive.
With brands like Glossier, Colourpop, Pat McGrath, and Fenty Beauty striving to be more inclusive, it's no surprise that many Black women are purchasing all kinds of products from various brands. From pigmented eyeshadow palettes to bright blushes and highlighters, brightly colored makeup products are increasingly starting to cater to deeper skin tones. Here are a few of our favorite colorful makeup looks that Black women look amazing in.
