We've all been affected by the global health crisis, and our favorite salons and barbershops are no different. We've teamed up with a group of beauty professionals around the U.S. to share their experiences surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. Read on to learn more about Tre, Nash, and Diandra.
Tremiyya Bumpus
@tredayy_
Oakland, CA
Tre’s go-tos:
Glam
Master Brow Artist
I got into the industry because
There’s something so special about making people look and feel beautiful. I loved the confidence I saw from women in beauty salons when they turned and saw the finished look. The happiness in their faces made me want to be a part of giving that same feeling.
How has the COVID-19 pandemic affected you and your business?
COVID-19 has closed my physical business completely, however, it has given me so much time to work on other business ventures.
What do you miss the most?
I miss my amazing clients. I miss that happy feeling I was able to give them when they came in to see me and the ability to be creative. I miss doing exactly what I was called to be doing. I miss those moments of transformations where I finish a client and look like “yeah, I did that!”
A message for my clients:
I miss you guys so much and I hope you are staying strong and not cheating on me! Haha! We will get through this and we will be back together. Also, remember that the more you let your brows grow out, the better they will look when you get them done with me next time.
What are some ways that your clients can support you during this time?
I recently hosted an online brow class. If you want to learn some techniques at home, definitely check that out and if you want help with your looks from home we can always do virtual one-on-ones.
Nash
@nashional_styles
Los Angeles, CA
Nash’s go-tos:
Natural Hair
Weaves and Wigs
Braids
I got into the industry because
It’s one of the many professions where we have a direct connection to our community. More specifically as a hairstylist, we have the power to emphasize the importance of self care and the equipment to do so.
How has the COVID-19 pandemic affected you and your business?
COVID-19 has given me the opportunity to think about the longevity of my business. It’s forced me to answer the tough questions about my emergency fund savings, 401k, health insurance, etc. This pandemic has made me accountable to make sure I have everything that I may need in place.
What do you miss the most?
I miss the ability to be able to connect with my clients physically and provide them the services I know they need. We are way more than hairstylists, for some we serve as a safe haven to vent your frustrations, a therapy session, an escape from reality.
A message for my clients:
Embrace the inevitable change. Everything happens for a reason and there is always a silver lining. You just have to be willing to look for it.
What are some ways that your clients can support you during this time?
My clients can support me by supporting themselves. Please do not use COVID-19 as an excuse to stop practicing self care: healthy mind, body, and spirit. Continue to practice self care and continue to stay positive.
Diandra Golatt
@diandragolatt_
San Francisco, CA
Diandra’s go-tos:
Natural Hair

I got into the industry because
I have a huge love for hair and there’s something so powerful in making someone look and feel their best.
How has the COVID-19 pandemic affected you and your business?
This pandemic has affected my business in both positive and negative ways. Financially, I've taken a huge loss but I'm able to take this time to think of ways I can be able to generate money without being behind the chair.
What do you miss the most?
I miss having that one-on-one interaction with my clients!
A message for my clients:
I can’t wait to get back in the salon! We’re all in this together, patience is key!
What are some ways that your clients can support you during this time?
Clients can support by purchasing gift cards & purchasing at-home root kits.
