If you follow some of the top makeup gurus on Instagram or subscribe to their channels on YouTube, you might have already heard about the latest eyeliner trend: floating eyeliner. The pastels of spring and bold hues of summer have inspired a neutral swoosh that shapes your eye and highlights your eyeshadow.
Here are a list of items you'll need to accomplish this liner look:
- Straight or angled eyebrow brush
- Eyeshadow applicator/brush
- Bold color eyeliner
- Concealer (starting at two shades or so lighter that your skintone)
- Two or more tones to blend for your eyeshadow
- A set of eyelashes (optional)
It's time to step back from the traditional black, cat eye and go-to glitter that we rocked all fall and winter (they'll be waiting for us when September ends). Let's take a look at a few renditions that are circulating in the Insta-sphere:
The glory of social media and artistry is that we get to see different versions on different skin tones complimented by a range of eyeshadow colors and patterns. Chicago Makeup Artist @bmarie_ shows us that mauve and nude still make a gorgeous pair.
Afte sketching an angled line with concealer to create the nude wing - you're already halfway there! Fill in the gap and pair it with a warm amber or deep maroon shadow and you'll be showcasing this look, fluttering those eyelashes all night.
There's no wrong way to customize your liner, however sticking to the neutral/nude theme is the objective. When it comes to changing the mold, @dmr319 is fearless and flawless! The fashion and beauty lover added a pop of neon pink to set the tones on her lid apart, leaving just enough space to create a geometric gauge that'll keep you staring. Her designs and one-of-a-kind looks are all the inspo you'll need to stunt at that day party this weekend.
And when we say stunt, we mean dropping jaws, something @princessbella has been doing with her iconic color combos and to-die-for textures. Karla parts the gorgeous ocean blue sea of eyeshadow on her lid with a coppery-gold, angled wing. If you're looking to try the trend and really dive in, model your look after this New Yorker; @princessbellaaa is the one to watch.
Last but certainly not least, this Sacramento YouTuber mastered the trend with a double-liner look, leaving out a bit of lid to give each stroke it's time to shine. @carol_kaledzera shows us how to achieve this look by sticking to the basics while also embracing the new. Her classic looks radiate with sass, sophistication and perfectly-placed highlighter.
By using a bright color above the black wing, you're creating an ode to the sunnier seasons while also paying homage to the old faithful wing that we know and love.
And last, but certainly not least, watch one of our faves Peakmill casually slay this look from start to finish:
So don't be afraid, in the season of glam and glow, to master the nude/floating liner trends. We suspect that peekaboos of skin will be surfacing non-stop for the next several weeks. (Yay, spring/summer!)
