For the new year, our goal was to highlight celebratory and familial moments that are relatable, while remaining fly and flashy. Moments filled with warm thoughts, feelings, and even smells from our childhood (can you smell the sweet potato pies and pine cones?). Metallic Memories is guided by the power of looking inward to explore an a creative and different outer appearance, like a new hairstyle. To be the master of your fate, you have to reflect on accomplishments from your past. Shiny, smoldering tones and iridescent shades demonstrate what a true leader of life looks like: bold, powerful, dynamic, diverse, and active.
Inspiration was found mostly in FOAM magazine. Tinsel Town, directed by Julia Galdo, incorporated the same emotion and style we wanted for Mayvenn: upbeat, victorious, playful, warm, and fabulous. Metallic and jewel tones seemed to be an obvious choice to convey a sense of excitement and thrill for the new year. Shop the looks below.

Our model selection was easy. We made a conscious effort to diversify and style women who represent different body shapes, age groups, and communities. Jerae is the first curvy model Mayvenn has ever worked with, and she will certainly not be the last. Even in these body positive times, there is still a shortage of curvy models in the hair and beauty industry (as if they don't have hair and are not beautiful). We want to shatter that, and replace it with a new standard for all women in beauty. It's as simple as this: Everyone is beautiful, so everyone should be seen.

THAT BEAT! For this look, the makeup selections were inspired by Hollywood starlets from Dorothy Dandridge to Marylin Monroe. They all knew the value of a powerful, pouty red lip. Inspiration was also drawn from social media beauty gurus who not only start trends but perfect them. Glitter lips(made famous by Keyshia Ka'oir, GUCCI!), scattered highlighter made popular by Fenty Beauty, and kinky, natural textures were heavily utilized. For the sleek side ponytail, we used 1 1/2 bundles of Brazilian Straight in 24". We created the last look using three bundles of Mayvenn Kinky Straight 24" with 18" Kinky Straight Frontal in a regal, half up-half down style.
