Go PINK for Breast Cancer Awareness Month With These Tips

Go PINK for Breast Cancer Awareness Month With These Tips

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and it’s extremely important to us for many reasons. Although black women are diagnosed at lower rates than our white counterparts, we are more likely to die from the disease.

It’s important to educate ourselves on the contributing factors. The more we know, the better we can work to prevent breast cancer from coming to fruition in our own lives and the lives of those we love. Annual mammogram screenings for women 40+ (or younger if there’s a history of breast cancer in your family) is encouraged. If discovered early, you’re able to receive treatments and halt the disease’s progression. Other healthy choices such as a balanced diet, daily exercise (recommended for one hour a day) and monitoring your alcohol intake to three alcohol beverages weekly are all preventative measures.

Many of us know women who have passed due to breast cancer or were lucky enough to survive. To pay homage to those women, instead of wearing the usual breast cancer ribbon let's get creative and pay our respects, while also raising awareness through these beauty trends while we continue to search for a cure.

Pink Hair

Whether you dye your hair, get extensions or rock a wig, this is a bold and fun way to show your support for the cause. It doesn’t have to be your full head. Highlights are always a cute add in, or choose to mix in different blends of pink. Either way, it’s a sure way to get attention. When someone asks why pink? Tell them, “for breast cancer awareness.”

Makeup

This is an easy one. All it takes is a little lip gloss, a matte lip, eye shadow, blush or all of the above. You can beat your face fully with hints of pink from your eyeshadow to your lipstick or go for a more subtle look with a touch of pink, even if it’s just a shimmer around the nose. Either way, the pink will be sure to pop out!

Accessories

Heading out for a mani and pedi? Play around with some pink polish. Add a pink necklace from your favorite costume jewelry spot to go along with your nude colored outfit for something funky to add to your look. Rock a pink heel with that beige or white dress to your next meeting. You can even wear that breast cancer awareness ribbon on your blazer. The possibilities are endless!

What will you do to stand in solidarity for breast cancer awareness month?
