Natural and not-so over-the-top hairstyles will be huge in 2017. ELLE Magazine called it, and we can’t agree more. Why? Hair salon owner Marie Robinson of Marie Robinson Salon in New York City claims, “Fashion is all over the place right now but one thing in common is there are lots of prints and colors. Hair usually balances that by being more subdued, natural, and softer in both texture and color.” It will also help you rock hair colors that may look washed-out or harsh on your skin tone. “These are not like the once-bad ombrés with such stark and severe demarcation lines, but a blonde that maintains depth, dimension, contrast, and has ends that gradually get lighter towards the bottom,” Tresch told ELLE. Essentially, dark roots are in.

Back in the early 2000’s, bone-straight hair was the cream of the hairstyle crop. Add in baby hairs that were gelled to perfection and you were basically Queen Jenny from the block. Over the years we saw the style disappear in fashion spreads and our neighborhoods and replaced by full, more voluminous looks. Well, it looks like the latter may have some competition in 2017 because bone-straight hair is making a huge comeback. From the fall fashion runways to editors to "IT" girls like Kim Kardashian and Ciara, bone-straight hair made its rounds late last season in a major way. If this is your desired look in 2017, check out our article where stylists share the best products to use when straightening your extensions. Of course, a favorite was coconut oil–no surprise there.

Listen--it’s a whole new year and we’re still fawning over Kerry Washington’s brushed out curls look at the Emmy’s in September…still. No shame. Thankfully, it’s set on being the hottest look in 2017.  It’s carefree, wild, but also playfully demure. To achieve this look, stylists at DevaChan in New York City told Essence Magazine it’s important to scrunch your curls while wet. “When hair is wet, it’s more flexible. You can shape and sculpt curls before your hair dries,” they report. Afterward, you can brush out your curls into the desired style.  If you want to achieve this look with a protective style, try Mayvenn’s Brazilian or Peruvian Curly hair types.
