Courage & Coils: Celebrating The Blackest Golden Globes Yet

Courage & Coils: Celebrating The Blackest Golden Globes Yet

This year’s Golden Globe ceremony (and the Golden Globes hair) made headlines as actresses and activists called attention to the sexual abuse experienced by countless women around the world. Actresses like Viola Davis and Tracee Ellis Ross donned black evening gowns in solidarity with the #MeToo movement and Hollywood’s most recent advocacy-development, “Time’s Up”. The legal defense fund is described as a unified call from women in entertainment for women everywhere.

In her monumental acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille award, Oprah told the stories of women like Recy Taylor, Rosa Parks and her own mother: women that endured and persevered. Moved by her words and the unanimous standing ovation, I couldn’t help but notice how snatched Oprah looked on that stage.

Winfrey was just one of the many gorgeous, black queens to bless us with moments of hairspiration that are likely to make waves for the rest of the year. Sassy spirals, coily crowns and heavenly headpieces all made their debut last night, placing the Golden Globes crowd in the presence of royalty. To celebrate the bold and the beautiful, here’s a list of the women that made a statement with their courage and coiffure.

Starting with the reigning goddess, Oprah Winfrey.

Sleek edges and sassy curls add sophistication and depth to her crown with a slightly new take on a classic look for a classic icon. Wand curls on your own tresses or a few added bundles will help you capture this look with ease. Shop her look here.

Kerry Washington

It’s a scandal how Washington slays the red carpet. With a side part and wand-curled locks, the starlet embodies glamour and simplicity. A wavy install, wand curls, paired with a side part, may be the touch you need to crack the case. Shop her look here.
